The Path Between
Book I: Hart’s Journey
“The Path Between is a mythic first-person series exploring identity, fire, and the choice to become”

Book I: Hart’s Journey
Some paths are not found by searching outward.
They reveal themselves only when everything familiar is stripped away.
Rook has lived by instinct her entire life—moving fast, staying sharp, surviving by knowing when to run and when to strike. But when she is taken from the world she knows and forced into the heart of a brutal stone quarry, survival is no longer enough.
Something ancient stirs beneath the surface of the mountain. Something waiting—not to be conquered, but to be understood.
As the lines between strength and surrender, darkness and light, begin to blur, Rook is drawn into a deeper reckoning—one that asks her to listen instead of fight, to choose instead of react, and to face the parts of herself she has long kept hidden.
The Path Between is a mythic, introspective fantasy about inner transformation, quiet rebellion, and the courage it takes to stand at the threshold of change.
This is not a story about becoming someone else.
It is about remembering who you already are.

Chapter One: Between Light and Chains
I push through the trees.
The air shifts, suddenly less heavy — as if I’ve stepped where the world grows thin.
Here I am again.
I can’t explain how this place feels so foreign —
like nowhere I’ve ever been —
and yet unmistakably like home.
Every time I arrive, it feels new and ancient at once.
As though I’ve walked these paths a thousand times before —
across a thousand lifetimes —
even if this body has never been here.
The way the sunlight shines through the trees is like hundreds of fairies pulling back curtains of heavenly light.
The scent of wildflowers and dew fills my nose as I take a deep, calming breath.
I can taste the sweetness in the air.
It all feels so freeing as I listen to the songs of the forest.
The brooks babble, bees buzz, frogs croak, and birds chirp —
each part of an orchestrated masterpiece.
My heart sings along as the warmth of the sun comforts me.
A cool breeze caresses my cheek.
I close my eyes
and embrace a moment of perfection.
Only here am I safe to breathe — the weight lifted.
Only here my body remembers: it was made for joy.
I collapse to the ground.
Instantly, the earth embraces me back in a gentle hug.
I am greeted with such love.
Peace sweeps over my body.
A slight giggle escapes.
I find myself drawn here more often.
I want to stay here forever.
Here, my heart is light.
There, my body is trapped in darkness.
Here, I am free.
There, I am not.
In this moment I wonder —
is this place waiting for me,
or does it simply exist
out of a longing for it?
Light blooms behind my closed eyes.
Too bright.
Too sudden.
The sky fractures.
Sound follows light
the way pain follows breath.
Thunder rolls through the ground,
through the roots,
through me—
so close the earth jumps beneath my body.
The forest shudders.
Iron screams.
The world tightens.
My eyes fly open.
The forest shatters—
green and gold ripped apart
by stone and rust and cold.
Another crack follows, closer still,
lightning bleeding through the narrow window high above,
burning the darkness into hard-edged shapes.
“Storm’s coming,” a guard mutters somewhere down the corridor.
Well, I guess I’m back.
“An inward journey of becoming revealed by choice, not command.”

A World That Listens
The world of The Path Between is not one that explains itself.
It reveals what you are ready to see, when you are ready to see it.
This is a world shaped as much by inner landscapes as outer ones.
Stone remembers. Water listens. Fire teaches.
The Path Between is not a place.
It is the space where change becomes possible.
Between who you were and who you are becoming.
Between force and surrender.
Between knowing and listening.
The story unfolds across multiple volumes, each following a stage of transformation rather than a single external quest.
Book I: Hart’s Journey begins in captivity and asks what it means to choose change from within.
Book II: Hart Unbound opens the world wider, where magic, connection, and the heart’s risks emerge.
Book III: Hart’s Return brings what was learned back into the world that shaped her.
This world does not ask you to escape your life.
It asks you to look at it differently.
If you feel drawn here, the path is already open.

About the Author
I write stories for those who know there is more,
but don’t yet know how to name it.
I didn’t set out to write a fantasy novel.
I joined a writing challenge with no outline and no certainty — only the quiet pull of a story I hadn’t yet met.
I began with a single idea: that the roles we play in life — spouse, parent, worker, friend — are parts, not definitions. And that real change begins when we step back from the part and remember the whole.
Hart’s Journey unfolded from there. Not as something I forced, but something I followed.
The Path Between was born from years of inner work, creative exploration, and the slow realization that growth does not come from force or conquest — but from awareness, choice, and courage.
I write for readers who sense that they are more than the roles they’ve been handed. For those who feel the pull toward change, even when they don’t yet know what that change looks like.
I believe stories are not escapes. They are mirrors.
This work is not about having answers.
It’s about learning how to listen.
